After appeals fail, candidate filing reopens today

Feb. 24. By Dave Vieser. All appeals filed with the NC Supreme Court regarding the new district voting maps in North Carolina have been denied, and primary filing begins today, according to the NC Board of Elections. The maps are final, as is and filing closes on March 4. The primary is set for Tuesday May 17.

The new state senate map will split parts of Cornelius and Huntersville.

For incumbents such as NC Sen. Natasha Marcus (D-41) it’s been an anxious few weeks waiting for a final decision. Christy Clark, will file today to run for NC House District 98. The Democrat lost to John Bradford who previously represented 98, which includes Cornelius.

Marcus said she would be filing to run within the next several days.

The process of drawing new districts has been contentious, with some potential candidates from both major parties expressing frustration with the final outcome and the manner in which it was reached.
