National Fishing Day is today, and Cornelius can loan you tackle

June 18. Today, or any day really, it’s time to grab your rod and reel, some bait and go fishing.

According to National Day Calendar, National Go Fishing Day on June 18 encourages us to drop a line — and we’ve got ponds and lake nearby. It’s a chance time to take a break from the  daily routine, bait a hook and catch some fish while enjoying the outdoors.

The town of Cornelius has a  Tackle Loaner Program to provide individuals, groups and families with fishing equipment without requiring them to purchase gear. It is ideal for a family or individual wanting to give fishing a try before spending money on equipment.

The equipment is borrowed in the same way books are borrowed from the library. Those wanting to borrow equipment go to the Cornelius Parks & Recreation office located on the 2nd floor of Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave. Feel free to call before you go: 704-892-6031 x160.  Regular office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., except holidays. Equipment must be picked up and returned to the office during office hours.
