And in dog news, Swifto enters NC market

April 18. A strategic business deal in the world of mergers and acquistions has canid ears standing up. Swifto, a leader in technology-driven pet care services, has acquired Wagz ‘n Whiskerz, a dog walking company in Davidson.

The purchase price was not disclosed but it is in the six figures, said Penina First, CEO and founder of Swifto.

The expansion highlights Swifto’s unique position in the pet care industry, competing against larger firms like Wag! and Rover. Swifto’s approach preserves local brand identity and managerial staff, promoting a familiar and friendly experience enhanced by technology.

“This move aligns with our mission to merge cutting-edge technology with trusted local dog walking, setting new standards in pet care,” First said.

Already operating in Manhattan and Miami, Swifto’s entry into its third state was supported by a $2.5 million investment from Benchmark Capital. Swifto has offices in NY and Miami, but in Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville managers will be working from home, First said.

Swifto wants to be the Uber for dog walking, by connecting dog owners with vetted and screened walkers. The service also lets clients view walkers’ routes and they receive a text at the beginning and at the end of a walk, as well as a photo along the way.
