May 7. US Rep. Alma S. Adams (NC-12) will honor her nominees to United States Military Service Academies during a virtual reception at 3 pm today. The reception will honor students—three of them from North Mecklenburg—who will attend one of the academies this fall.

The students who received appointments to the Class of 2024 include:

—Chris Torres, Huntersville: Military Academy at West Point (Lake Norman Charter)
—Ethan Schneider, Cornelius: Naval Academy (Hough)
—Tanner Gresham, Huntersville: Military Academy at West Point (Hopewell)
—Olivia Hommes, Charlotte: Air Force Academy (South Meck)
—Cameron Helmendach, Charlotte: Merchant Marine Academy (Hickory Grove Christian)
—Ayush Padhi, Charlotte: Naval Academy (Ardrey Kell)

Students seeking a nomination can apply through their U.S. House Representative, U.S. Senators and the Vice President of the United States.

Since being elected to Congress, Adams has nominated a total of 68 students from the 12th Congressional District.
