Cornelius is a top polling place; much shorter wait Friday for Early Voting

Oct. 16. By Dave Yochum. Thursday was a big day for Early Voting in  Mecklenburg. County-wide, 35,269 people exercised their right to vote yesterday, the first day of Early Voting in North Carolina. A total of 1,320 people voted at Cornelius Town Hall, 918 at Hough High and 1,004 at the North Meck County Library.

The wait was less than 30 minutes at 10 am Friday at Town Hall.

Largest in north county

Cornelius Town Hall was a top vote-getter when it came to where to cast your ballot.

With 1,320 voters, it handled 14 more voters than UNCC Belk Gymnasium; 278 more than Bank of America Stadium; and 173 more than Spectrum Center. Only Southwest Middle School, with, 1,360 voters, handled more.

Battleground state

North Carolina is a battleground state, but the presidential election is only part of it. There are tough contests up and down the ballot, including US Senate, Mecklenburg County Commission District One and NC House of Representatives District 98.

22 — West Charlotte High School
23 — Hornet’s Nest Park
24 — Carmel Commons Shopping Center
25 — Independence High School
26 — UNCC Belk Gymnasium
27 — Old Pier One University Area
28 — Mallard Creek High School
