Weekender Nov. 4-6: Barbecue, concerts and festivals abound

Check out the barbecue lunches this week.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up this weekend:

Nov. 4

Chorale and Symphony Orchestra

5 – 6:30 pm | Nov. 4. The Davidson Chorale and Chamber Singers present music from Baltic nations where the cultural heritage of singing is millenia old. Free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.  Davidson College, Knobloch Campus Center DFPH-Duke Family.

Jazz Ensemble – Wildcat Weekend

8 – 9:30 pm | Nov. 4. The jazz ensemble will be featuringmusic faculty members in collaborations. Free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. Davidson College, Sloan Music Center Tyler-Tallman Recital Hall.

Sandbar Drag Show

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.

See website for times  | Nov. 4-13. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. Foundation Moto’s Annual Old Town Revival

The Beat Goes on: Cher Tribute Show 

Doors open 6 pm; show starts 7 pm | Nov. 5. Features American singer/actress Lisa McClowry’s portrayal of Cher. Tickets  $29-$39. Joe V. Knox Auditorium at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St., Mooresville.

46th annual Working Fingers Craft Show

Voice Studio Recital – Wildcat Weekend

3 – 4:30 pm | Nov. 5. Davidson College voice students of Jacquelyn Culpepper, Ilana Lubitsch, Harrison Bumgardner, Melinda Whittington and Amanda Sesler take the stage in an eclectic program of vocal music accompanied by Tomasz Robak. Davidson College, Sloan Music Center Tyler-Tallman Recital Hall. Free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Piano Studio Recital – Wildcat Weekend 

7:30 – 9 pm | Nov. 5.  Davidson College, Sloan Music Center Tyler-Tallman Recital Hall. Students from the studios of Cynthia Lawing and Will Fried look to captivate the audience during Wildcat Weekend for a program of solo and collaborative works. Free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

Backyard BBQ Fundraiser

Statesville Pumpkin Fest 

Noon | Nov. 5.  Music, arts, crafts, great food, shopping, vendors and more. Southbound 77 will be on the main stage at noon.

Fall Nature Fest

10 am-noon | Nov. 5. Family-focused celebration of the fall season and autumn’s wonders of nature. This event will take place along the paved 1-mile stretch of greenway. Participants can enter the greenway from the parking area at 18232 Shearer Road, Davidson, or along River Ford Drive at the entrance to the West Branch Greenway. Rain date is Sunday, Nov. 6 from 1-3 pm.

The Nov. 5 photography workshop will start in the classroom where you will fit your own macro lens on your smartphone, then to the greenhouse.

Charity Pickleball Tournament

10th Annual Cornelius Food Truck Invitational

Noon-5 pm | Nov. 6. Food trucks battle for your vote. Music, vendors, kids activities. Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., Cornelius.

‘Thankful. Grateful. Blessed:’ A Pre-Thanksgiving Concert

Connecting Cornelius: Coffee Chat

Frederick Graff, AWS, D.F., Salem, SC, “Heritage Hill” winner of AWS Gold Medal of Honor  will be part of the watercolor exhibit in Mooresville through Jan. 4.

International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society

Noon-4pm | Tuesday-Friday; 10am-2pm | Saturday. Forty watercolor paintings from today’s nationally known and internationally known masters will be on display in Mooresville Arts’ Center Gallery, 103 W. Center Ave., Mooresville. Many of the paintings will be for sale.

Men of Change art exhibit

Check websites for gallery schedules. | B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture  and Levine Museum of the New South to bring  Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth. The Gantt will display Storytellers, Fathering, and Imagining; Levine Museum will display Catalysts, Myth-Breakers, and Community; both museums in Charlotte will display Loving. Admission is free.
