Armour After Dark

Original r&b, hip-hip, jazz and gospel performances from the Broadway-bound musical A Walk in My Shoes. This concert-style production merges the magic of theatre with the vitality of live music experiences. Contains strong adult content. Recommended for ages 17+. Tickets $20 plus taxes and fees. Saturday, May 17

Charlotte Asian Festival and Charlotte Dragon Boat Festival

7:30 am- 5 pm | May 17. Celebrate the culture, traditions and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Celebrate their heritage through many activities such as dancing, traditional meals, Dragon Boat Festival Race, observing and appreciating their rich history. Public parking is not available at Ramsey Creek Park, but free parking and shuttle service are available starting at 9 am and run throughout the festival. Cornelius Fishing Derby

10 am – 1 pm | May 17. Friendly fishing competition for kids. Prizes awarded. Fishing poles will be available or bring your own. Must register. Robbins Park upper pond, 17738 W. Catawba Ave., Cornelius.

Cornelius Jazz Festival

6-10 pm | May 17. Free community event. Festival includes local jazz bands, food trucks, craft beer, local business vendors and children’s activities. Smithville Park, 7738 W. Catawba Ave.

LKN Kiwanis Splashville Park Opens

9 am May 17. The splash pad is approximately 1,300 square feet.The splash pad, which is ADA accessible, is open to the public and may not be reserved for private groups. The nearby picnic shelter is available for reservations. Open 9 am-11:30 am, 1-3:30 pm and 5-7 pm Monday -Friday; 9 am-7 pm Saturday, Sunday and holidays.Smithville Park, 19710 South Ferry St., Cornelius.

Concerts @ the Circle: Those Meddling Kids – Rock Variety

Sunday, May 18
Music at St. Alban’s

3 pm | May 18. Mallarmé Music, a Durham-based ensemble, as they celebrate the collaborative spirit of chamber music in an inspirational performance titled “Bach to Beatles to Bluegrass.” Follow the history of the music for strings starting with works by J.S. Bach through traditional bluegrass arranged for quartet by Mark O’Connor. The concert will be preceded by a young artists’ performance at 2:20 p.m., featuring twins Soren Allen, cello and Lena Allen, violin. The concert will be available via live streaming.
