Weekend Planner: Best bets

Oct. 15: The Tim Cook Band perform at Live Under the Oaks in Birkdale Village

Here’s the best bets for funs this weekend:

Friday, Oct. 15

Live Under the Oaks concert 

6-8 pm. The Tim Cook Band. The Grove across from Starbucks at Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

Saturday, Oct. 16

Guns and Hoses Softball Game

2 pm. Come join the Cornelius Police Department & Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue for our Annual Guns & Hoses Charity Softball Game. A home run derby will begin at 2pm and the softball game will begin immediately after. Cheer on your local first-responders as they compete for the Guns & Hoses Trophy. There will also be activities for kids, food trucks and a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will be donated to Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center and the Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund.  Bailey Road Park, 11536 Bailey Rd.

Rescue Ranch Dogtoberfest 

11 am – 6 pm. Families and their leashed dogs can enjoy live music, a beer garden, food trucks, a doggy costume contest, dog nature trails, a ‘Barking lot’ (pet product vendors and services market), barnyard animal ambassadors, animal ambassador presentations, adoptable animals, activities for kids and pumpkin painting.

Admission is $5 per person with children 1 and younger and dogs free. The dog-friendly event requests that all dogs are kept on leashes, are well-mannered and fully vaccinated.  Rescue Ranch, 1424 Turnersburg Hwy., Statesville.


Oct. 16: Enjoy live music, food and a doggy costume contest at Rescue Ranch Dogtoberfest

Bailey’s Glen holds the Palooza Artisan Fair

10 am – 1 pm. More than 40 artisans will be selling their work in the Clubhouse Ballroom. Cash preferred. Some artists will accept credit or check.A portion of the proceeds will go to Hinds Feet Farm, a facility dedicated to serving people living with permanent brain injuries.

Oktoberfest Festival 

Noon – 5 pm.  Festival at DaVeste Vineyard, 155 Lytton Farm Rd., Troutman. Food trucks, crafts.

Sunday, Oct. 17

Concerts on the Green

Kids in America, Totally 80s Tribute. 6-8 pm on The Village Green downtown Davidson.
