Volunteer award given to Scott Higgins, PARC chair

HIGGINS RECEIVES AWARD FROM MAYOR WASHAM

Dec. 22. Antiquity resident Scott Higgins has received the prestigious Raburn “Rip” Jackson Award for his service on the PARC Advisory Board.

He first joined the board as a commissioner in 2015, became vice-chair in 2016, and then chair in 2017, a position he still holds.

Higgins, who was reappointed at the Town Board meeting Monday night, has a lengthy track record of public service in Cornelius. He and his wife Sharon retired here in 2013.

Volunteer positions include:

—Pre-Development Planning Board

—NC Road #115/ Main Street Feasibility Steering Committee

—Northern Regional Recreation Center Stakeholder’s Committee

—Mayor’s Advisory Council

—Regional Partnership Committee

—Town of Cornelius Housing Task Force

—Mayor’s Strategic Working Group for Cornelius Arts and Community Center

—Public Safety Management Steering Committee

—Mecklenburg County Arts and Science Council

—Street Access for Everyone

—Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (serving as a food recovery driver)

Higgins spent his 40+ year professional career in health services and academic leadership, as a professor, research administrator, and dean, including a stint as president of the Southern Conference.
