Oct. 10. By Ryan Moxon. The undefeated Hough Huskies host the 1-5 Garinger Wildcats tonight at 7 p.m. at Hough High School as they look to move to 7-0 on the season.
Garinger’s lone win this season was a 36-6 home victory over Winston-Salem Prep Academy, which is 0-7. The Wildcats and Huskies have not faced any common opponents this fall.
Sophomore running back Zykerion Pharr is Garinger’s top offensive threat, averaging 95 rushing yards per game with a season total of three rushing touchdowns and one receiving score. The Wildcats are averaging just 160 yards of total offense per game, including 66 yards passing.
Hough emerged unscathed from a front-loaded schedule that featured signature wins over regional powerhouses South Pointe (S.C.) and Highland Springs (Va.), as well as a hard-fought week four victory against Mooresville. The Huskies have dominated their last two games, outscoring New Bern and West Mecklenburg by a combined 96-15.
During last week’s bye, Hough maintained its No. 1 ranking in the state’s 8A conference, according to The Charlotte Observer.
The Huskies’ remaining schedule includes home games against 6-1 South Mecklenburg and a road matchup with 5-1 Myers Park. Hough will close the regular season against 2-4 Hopewell, a game moved to Thursday night with Halloween falling on a Friday.
Tickets cost $8 on the Home Team app and the game will be live streamed on NFHS Network.
