Published On: July 30, 2024

July 30. The citizen-driven Transportation Advisory Board is stepping up the “Road Show” initiative with an open meeting Aug. 20 at The BoatYard Lake Norman. The meeting will focus on the road improvements coming to Hwy. 21—specifically at the nearby intersection of Hwy. 21 and Westmoreland.

TAB members will discuss road improvements scheduled for this year as well as answer questions.

Osborne

The Road Show initiative is designed to inform Cornelius residents about the various transportation projects in our area, according to Michael Osborne, the town commissioner appointed to the TAB.

The Aug. 20 event will be TAB’s second Road Show stop of the summer, the first having been held at Smithville Park.

The event starts at 6 pm.

It seems inevitable that there will be a Exit 27 but the adjoining roads are already at their capacity; i.e. 21, Westmoreland and Catawba; with additional construction impacting all three at the same time with the development of Alexander Farms, Atrium’s newest hospital that has already grown in bed size from what was originally requested and all the development occurring on Catawba. This isn’t just adding an Exit it is a project of updating the overdue improvements to all of the adjoining roads, which would also require a 4 lane bridge over 77 on Westmoreland. Judging from what we have seen of the project to the South on Gilead, this could be a nightmare for more than a year.

Why isn’t W. Catawba being widened before 21 or 115?
Still have not had an answer yet.
