July 23. Cornelius residents have an opportunity to meet with at least one of three mayoral candidates and five of seven candidates for the Board of Commissioners tonight from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Eleven Lakes Brewery.
The announcement stated candidates on hand are expected to include incumbent Mayor Woody Washam, as well as board incumbents Todd Sansbury, Michael Osborne, Susan Johnson and Robert Carney. All five candidates registered for the race at the board of elections at the same time on July 8th.

They are expected to be joined by Colin Furcht, who is looking to return to the board. Furcht previously served a two-year term but lost in the last election cycle.
Other candidates registered for the election are Denis Bilodeau and Kenny Campbell; as well as board candidates Michael DeVoney and John Caldwell. Current board member Scott Higgins is not seeking re-election.
The event is being billed as a Fourth of July Afterparty and is being hosted by the North Mecklenburg Republicans. Town elections are non-partisan in North Carolina because state law designates them that way, which means that candidates run without official party labels on the ballot, and political parties do not formally nominate candidates for local offices.
