Hotel Proposed for Southeast Cornelius

Published On: March 24, 2026Tags:

Developer Jake Palillo has requested a zoning change for about 6.3 acres near the intersection of Sam Furr Road and Mayes Road to construct a 45,000-square-foot hotel with 45 rooms, a spa, and rental cottages.

Elevations on the town of Cornelius’ website show the property with frontage on Sam Furr Road and a U-shaped hotel featuring a courtyard pool and spa/club building. Seven cottages are proposed for the north side of the site.

At a pre-development committee meeting last October, a 16-lot residential subdivision for the site was discussed. Planning Director Rox Burhans said some concerns were raised about the number of lots proposed.

The property is currently zoned rural preservation and would need conditional zoning for the hotel. Following a community meeting, the proposal will undergo two public hearings before the town board, as well as a planning board review.

Jake Palillo tried to invade Huntersville with his Lagooni and failed! Don’t let him get any further into Cornelius. The zoning changes should not be approved.

It is zoned rural preservation for a reason. Enough of this garbage.

We definitely need more cars and traffic?!?!

Not in favor of zoning change

Rural preservation does not mean a hotel and spa! Stop this absolute nonsense that is ruining this town! Not in favor of a zoning change for this.

Change nc law to make developers improve infrastructure as part of the bonding process and I would support this

This project does not go along with world development. A hotel belongs in the city near everything else. We have enough traffic and cars on Sam Furr. Before anything else happens on Highway 73 they need to widen the road.

Agree with all comments. Run Jake Palillo out of Cornelius! His failed Lagoon development proposal was absurd.

    Really???

    A hotel!? Really!?

This is just so wild. That space is good for like 4 houses. Or a park. Or nothing.

I’ll see everyone at the town meeting on May 4 to encourage the town to vote “no.”

Are all of the hotels in this area at capacity 100% of the time? I see two dozen hotels in LKN on Google Maps without even zooming in or counting Airbnbs. I would hate to see more rural preservation land destroyed for something that isn’t even needed. I won’t be able to make it to the meeting, unfortunately, but I hope this gets plenty of attention and thorough investigation.

VOTE NO! We don’t need more hotels, and we don’t need more traffic!
