Aug. 13. Ramsey Creek Beach is expected to reopen at noon today after being closed over the weekend when routine water testing revealed elevated bacteria levels.
The county announced the closure last Friday and attributed the bacteria to recent heavy rainfall.
The water will be retested this morning before the official reopening, but tests conducted Monday showed bacteria levels “well below Mecklenburg County’s threshold for further action,” a county spokesperson said.
Mecklenburg County, which operates Ramsey Creek Park, regularly tests the water for two broad groups of bacteria known to cause illness in humans: fecal coliform and E. coli.
Ramsey Creek Beach is open to the public from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. From June 13 through Aug. 22, normal hours are Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The beach is open on weekends only during early and late summer.
