‘Peaceful protest’ at noon to support reopening NC

Published On: April 21, 2020

April 21. Diane “Dee” Gilroy, an unsuccessful candidate for Town Board last year, is organizing a “peaceful protest using social distancing to support beginning Phase 1 of the White House Plan to ReOpen NC no later than May 1.”

The protest will take place on the Exit 28 bridge, the scene of anti-toll protests in years past.

Gilroy said she is not running for Town Board next year. The protest begins at noon.

Gov. Cooper’s stay-at-home order ends April 29. Gilroy said not doing so will have dire consequences for our economy.

In a Facebook post, she said, “There will be more deaths from suicide, heart attacks, murder, cancer etc than all the COVID-19 deaths in our state if we prolong the quarantine.”

Gilroy is absolutely right about death from stress. People are fed up with staying at home, being unable to work, unable to have a meal at a restaurant, or go to church. Even Jesus went out in the desert by Himself for solitude with God, but there are states that will lock a person up for being out enjoying an activity by themselves! Doing something by oneself is the ultimate “social distancing”. Locking someone up for that is about control, not safety. I say go to work, to eat, try to maintain six feet, and wash your hands. If you are scared, then stay your butt at home!

Gilroy seems to have gone nuts with her statement about suicide, murder, cancer etc. I own a small business-I’m closed and I’m worried. But I don’t want my business opening too early to be a cause of spreading Covid 19.
