EDLUND

Patricia Ann Abernethy Edlund passed away peacefully on July 3, 2015, at The Pines in Davidson, NC, after a long illness.

Born in Concord, NC, on July 28, 1929, Patricia was a daughter of the late Addie Moose and Joseph Harvey Lenoir Abernethy. She was a graduate of Thomasboro High School and Queens College in Charlotte, NC. She worked for the Charlotte News after graduating from Queens. After she and her family moved to Lake Norman in 1970, she soon became secretary at Mt Zion UMC, Cornelius, NC, serving in that role for 23 years before retiring in 1995 to help care for her first grandchild, Ben.

Blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, she enjoyed singing with the Charlotte Oratorio Singers and her church choirs at First United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC, and Mt Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius, NC. Her gift of music also allowed her to enjoy many years of playing piano for the Sunday School children and participating in the Handbell choir at Mt Zion.

Patricia was a true lady who dearly loved her family and took pride in creating a beautiful and loving environment for them. She was a gifted seamstress and cross stitcher; an avid bridge player; a lover of crossword and Sudoku puzzles; an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly of Tar Heel basketball, Chicago Cubs baseball, and Carolina Panthers football. While a resident of The Pines for the past three years, she made many friends and enjoyed getting together for meals, bridge, trivia, and other events in that vibrant community.

Remaining to cherish memories of their mother and Nana are son, Steve Edlund of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Camille Taylor of Davidson, NC; and her three beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Goodson, Samantha Edlund, and Eric Edlund. She is also survived by sister, Barbara A. Whitehead of Matthews, NC; nephews Kent Whitehead and Tommy Whitehead, and niece Sue Bivens.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Stanley E. Edlund, and baby sister, Helon Sue Abernethy.

Her family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of The Pines and to Hospice for their genuine love and support during the past few months.

A service to celebrate Patricia’s life will be held on Thursday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, NC. A reception and receiving of friends will immediately follow the service in the church’s Family Life Center.
