Dec. 30. Novant Health has issued new guidance for hospital visitations as the spread of viruses like the flu and RSV have increased in recent weeks. As of today, Novant is temporarily limiting visits by children under age 13 at its North Carolina hospitals to help protect patients and their families from respiratory illnesses.
“We’re seeing a noticeable rise in respiratory viruses, including flu, across our communities,” said Dr. David Priest, senior vice president and chief safety and quality officer at Novant Health. “We can all play a part in reducing the spread, from staying home when sick and keeping up with vaccines to seeking the right level of care when needed. These temporary visitor restrictions help safeguard our most vulnerable patients, and we appreciate our communities’ cooperation.”
Visitor Guidelines
Children under 13: Should stay home unless seeking care or under special circumstances, such as visiting a new sibling in postpartum areas or a family member receiving end-of-life care. Parents and guardians should coordinate with the patient’s care team.
Masks: Optional for visitors.
If you’re sick: Anyone 13 or older with flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose) should avoid visiting. Those seeking care at a hospital are exempt but will be asked to wear a mask.
