Newsmakers Breakfast Oct. 12 with US Sen. Thom Tillis

Sept. 25. US Sen. Thom Tillis will be the featured speaker at the Newsmakers Breakfast Q&A at The Peninsula Club on Oct. 12.

Tillis began began a second career in politics after he was elected to the Cornelius Town Board in 2003. Following a two-year term as town commissioner, he ran for the NC General Assembly in 2006, defeating incumbent John W. Rhodes in the Republican primary. He was reelected unopposed in 2008, 2010 and 2012, becoming only the fifth Republican in state history to be chosen Speaker of the House.

He was first elected to the US Senate in 2014 and is currently serving in his second term after being re-elected in 2020.

Tillis now lives with his wife Susan, founder of the Red White & Bundled Baby Shower, in Huntersville. They have two grown children and three grandchildren.

Sen. Tillis is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, and the Judiciary Committee.

The Newsmakers Q&A over breakfast is an open-forum with people who make the news. Anyone can ask a question.

Details

The cost to attend is $16, which includes a full country breakfast.

Doors open at 7:15 a.m. for networking. The buffet-style breakfast gets under way at 7:30 a.m.

The Q&A begins at 8 a.m. and the event concludes promptly at 9.
