Light at Jetton, W. Catawba may be working for holiday weekend

May 19. By Dave Vieser. As of Monday afternoon May 18, the NCDOT was on the job at Jetton and West Catawba to get the intersection opened up in time for the holiday weekend.

“We envision that the traffic lights will be mounted and the road reopened by the end of this week, weather permitting,” said NCDOT spokeswoman Jen Thompson.

As for getting the traffic signal fully automatic and functional, it will take a few more weeks because there are some other parts that need to be ordered and installed.

“We’ve been focusing on getting the infrastructure in place to get the intersection opened back up in the short term but will get that signal back in operation as soon as possible,” Thompson said.

It is one of the busiest intersections in the town. Traffic volume is likely to surge this weekend with the Memorial Day holiday.

The signal was damaged in early April when a truck driver hired by a demolition firm pulled out of the Chase Bank construction site with the bed up in the air.
