From Hula Hoops and balloons to cool jazz stylings and craft beer, the Old Town Jazz Festival was a big hit Saturday evening in Smithville Park. Hundreds of people attended the first-ever jazz concert in the park. The Smithville Community Choir, with the indomitable Lula Bell Houston on vocals, was a big hit, along with Shades of Brown and the Brian Burton Trio. The Smithville Community Coalition hopes to make this an annual event, according to organizer Lisa Mayhew-Jones. Proceeds will help fund the new Kiwanis splash park.
