MAYOR WASHAM IN FRONT OF TOWN HALL
July 5. Woody Washam has filed to run for second term as mayor of Cornelius.
The two-term town commissioner, banker and church organist so far is the only candidate for the top elective office in town.
The leader of the five-member board only votes to break ties, but he or she also sets the agenda for the board, as well as tone and style.

WASHAM AT BOE
He is known for his ability to lead and manage through disagreements.
Two years ago Washam replaced former Mayor Chuck Travis, who withstood a 5-0 no-confidence vote in 2016, after traveling to Raleigh to lobby for the Cintra-NCDOT toll plan on I-77.
Filing opened at the Mecklenburg Board of Elections July 5 and closes July 19.
All five sitting commissioners are expected to file for re-election.
