May 22. By Dave Yochum. Former Town Commissioner Denis Bilodeau will run for mayor this fall, setting up a rematch between him and incumbent Woody Washam who plans to seek a fifth term this November.
Bilodeau is a former president of the Peninsula Property Owners Association and the North Mecklenburg Rotary as well as a senior executive at a Fortune 500 insurance company and small business owner here in Cornelius.

Bilodeau
He served three terms on the Town Board before losing to Washam by five votes two years ago.
Bilodeau retired from Aquesta Financial prior to the locally based financial institution’s sale to United Community Bank.
Bilodeau said it is healthy to have competition in elections, whether they’re local, regional or national.
Quotable
“For years, residents have voiced real concerns about traffic, infrastructure, and the pace of change — but too little has been done. It’s time to break from the status quo and deliver the results our community deserves. Cornelius needs leadership that listens, acts, and puts residents first. I’m ready to bring accountability, transparency, and smart planning to Town Hall,” Bilodeau said.
There may be more candidates for mayor.
Candidate filing for the municipal elections this fall will open on Monday, July 7 at 8 am and run through Friday, July 18 at noon.
Excellent. Will be great to have his leadership guiding the town.
His statement is the ultimate example of a political promise with zero details. If he is “ready to bring accountability” etc, then he surely has a valid plan on how to do so. So why not spell it out with facts? Or would that put accountability on him?
