Incumbents plus Furcht elected to town board

Editor’s note: This story is being updated with candidate responses as they are received.

Nov. 5. By Dave Vieser. All four incumbent Cornelius commissioners who sought re-election — Michael Osborne, Susan Johnson, Todd Sansbury and Robert Carney — have been re-elected. Planning Board member Colin Furcht also won a seat on the Town Board.

Osborne

Osborne, the top vote-getter with 4,999 votes, will serve as mayor pro tem. Challenger Michael DeVoney garnered 13% of the total tally to lose a spot on the board by 657 votes.

“I’m happy that the platform we ran on in 2021 still resonates with the voters, and that message is to protect our quality of life,” said Osborne. “That’s why I ran again and that’s what I care most about. What I’m most excited about – and with the board it’s a priority – is I think we can take it to the next level and actually build on our quality of life. I think we have some opportunities that will be transformational for our town.”

Furcht easily regained a seat he lost by a slim margin two years ago.

“I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity to serve again,” he said. “While I never really left, my focus remains steadfast to manage growth, keep pressure on DOT with the existing and future road projects and continue to find ways to grow green space. Now that the transportation tax has passed, we need to use that money wisely to help address congestion and find ways to enhance existing roadways. We have a lot to do but this team is up to the task.”

The new Town Board will take office in December along with newly-elected Mayor Denis Bilodeau.
