Hough vs. West Charlotte: Victor advances to state title game

Nov. 26. By Ryan Moxon. It’s the Charlotte-area high school football matchup the entire season has been building toward.

No. 2 West Charlotte travels to No. 1 Hough on Friday night to decide who will represent the West region in the 8A state championship game.

Hough enters the matchup 11-0, while West Charlotte is 10-2 with its only losses coming against Grimsley and South Pointe. The Huskies edged South Pointe 14-10 in their season opener at Bank of America Stadium.

Statistically, the teams are strikingly similar. Both offenses score in bunches and both defenses give up very little. Hough has scored 473 points this season to West Charlotte’s 417. Defensively, the Huskies have allowed just 93 points; the Lions have surrendered only 82.

West Charlotte’s run-heavy, balanced offense powered its way to 210 rushing yards last week against Myers Park, led by junior running back Sincere Gray. Junior quarterback Jamouri Nichols added 65 rushing yards and has thrown for more than 200 yards in four games this season.

Tickets cost $16 on the Go Fan app and the game will be live streamed on NFHS Network.
