By Ryan Moxon — The Hough boys basketball team dominated the first and fourth quarters Wednesday night against Myers Park to advance to the Greater Charlotte 7A/8A Conference tournament final on Friday.
The Huskies jumped out to a fast start, ending the first quarter with a 21-7 lead after trailing most of the game in their previous meeting with the Mustangs. Myers Park rallied in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to two, and a low-scoring third quarter left Hough ahead by six entering the fourth.
Hough pulled away in the final quarter, winning 63-47.
Hough junior guard Tre Ratliff led all scorers with 20 points, including 12 in the first quarter. Junior guard Christian Coleman and senior forward John Slusher each added 13 points.
In his first season as head coach, Beau Maye has led the team to a 19-6 record, with two of those losses coming to Myers Park.
“Credit to them, but our guys did a great job tonight,” said Maye. “Came out with high energy and high attention to detail and did the little things we always talk about, and it paid off for us.”
“That’s a testament to our guys and the work they continue to put in day in and day out. Proud to be able to say I coach these young men.”
Hough will play South Mecklenburg at Hopewell in the conference final on Friday night. The Huskies defeated the Sabres in both regular season matchups.
Hough girls fall
The Huskies girls basketball team lost earlier in the evening to Myers Park by a score of 31-28 in the conference semifinals.
At 14-11 Hough now awaits their seed for the state playoffs.
