Funeral services today for Lenoir-Rhyne student; his father is pastor of Cornelius church

Dec. 2. Funeral services for the Lenoir-Rhyne University student athlete killed Nov. 20 in Hickory are 2 pm today with the wake at 1 pm at University City United Methodist Church.

Omari Alexander, 19, is the son of Rev. Russell Alexander, pastor of Hunters Chapel United Methodist Church on John Connor Road. Omari was found shot in his car off-campus at a Hickory apartment.

He was a member of the Lenoir-Rhyne football team and a former standout player for Mallard Creek High School.

Friends of the Alexander family have organized a Gofundme page.

Donations will assist in beginning the Omari Alexander Memorial Scholarship fund to honor his memory and provide assistance to future athletes who will pursue higher education at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Quavius Shamond Izard, 21, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder by Hickory Police on Nov. 24. Hailee Maureen Melanson, 20, was charged with Felony Accessory After The Fact.

Services are at University City United Methodist Church, 3835 West WT Harris Blvd, Charlotte.
