July 24. The Cornelius Fire Department responded to a fire at the Goodwill in Cornelius on Wednesday morning and quickly extinguished the blaze before it could cause any major damage.
One lane of West Catawba Rd. was briefly closed while firefighters tended to the flames.
A spokesperson for the department said the fire was contained to a dumpster on the exterior of the store and there was no damage to the main building. Goodwill is popular with local deal seekers and shoppers were seen actively strolling the aisles again by early afternoon.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by the fire marshal, the spokesperson said.
