DWI checkpoint nets arrests, drugs

Aug. 22. From 7 pm to midnight on Saturday, the Cornelius Police conducted a Multi-Agency DWI checkpoint in the area of W. Catawba Avenue and Nantz Road. Fifteen officers from the Cornelius Police Department, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department, Davidson Police Department, Huntersville Police Department and Pineville Police Department assisted with the checkpoint.

A number of residents had posted on Facebook about a significant gathering of law enforcement agencies Saturday evening, and the Nantz Road location was a new site for such a checkpoint. Previous checkpoints have occurred on Catawba Avenue closer to Westmoreland Road as well as in either direction on Catawba.

As a result of the checkpoint, officers made the following arrests and citations:

1 – Driving While Impaired

2 – Warrants for Arrest

1 – Felony Possession of Cocaine

1 – Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Cocaine

11 – No Operator’s License

18 – Expired Tags

3 – Driving While License Revoked

4 – Inspection Violations

1 – Provisional Driving While Impaired

1 – Possession of Marijuana
