COVID update Feb. 24: Positive testing statewide under 8%

Feb. 24. Hospitalizations due to COVID have fallen under 2,000 for the first time since late December. The NCDHHS puts the total at 1,982, down 13.6 percent since Monday.

The NCDHHS also reported 59 new COVID-related deaths statewide, three of them in Mecklenburg County.

Today’s new case volume was 3,650, more than double Tuesday’s new case volume.

Testing

The NCDHHS said the statewide positivity rate was 7.9 percent; the Mecklenburg 14-day average was 11.6 percent. The state positivity rate was last in the sevens in December.

Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday)

There were 240 new COVID cases reported countywide and 3 new deaths.

North Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday)

• Cornelius: 7 new cases, 6,662 cumulative total, 34 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 8 new cases, 4,034 cumulative total, 21 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 12 new cases, 15,092 cumulative total, 89 deaths cumulative total.

    When does the mask mandate end?

      It depends on what mask mandate you mean, but the Mecklenburg County mask mandate officially ends Feb. 26.
