COVID update Aug. 24: Testing, cases, hospitalizations, deaths

Aug. 24. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services is reporting 4,623 new cases of the coronavirus statewide, along with another increase in hospitalizations to 3,342. On June 24, a total of 394 North Carolinians were hospitalized due to COVID-19.

The median number of new cases over the past seven business days (6,631) is 98.5 percent higher than the median number of new cases over the past 30 business days (3,340). 

NC deaths

The NCDHHS today reported 32 new coronavirus deaths from yesterday to today.

Testing

Positive tests climbed to 14.7 percent statewide. On June 24 it was at 2.1 percent.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 511 new cases from Monday to today, and five new COVID-related deaths. The county-wide positive test rate eased from13.2 percent yesterday to 13 percent in today’s report.

North Mecklenburg (change from Monday)

Cornelius: 12 new cases, 3,345 cumulative total, 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 7 new cases, 1,959 cumulative total, 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 32 new cases, 7,211 cumulative total, 55 deaths total.
