COVID-19 update Sept. 20: Health director notes ages of decedents in 28078

Sept. 20. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services is reporting 3,257 new cases of the coronavirus statewide as well as 161 new deaths statewide since Friday, including one more new death in Huntersville.

Gibbie Harris, Mecklenburg County Health Director, said there were five deaths reported from Huntersville between Sept. 1 and Sept 16, with the average age of death around 60 years of age.

She said there were an additional five deaths reported in the Huntersville area during the month of August with the average age of death around 70 years of age.

However none of these deaths have been linked to congregate care facilities, she said.

There were no COVID deaths reported in Huntersville during the seven weeks between June 18 to Aug. 12, according to statewide data from NCDHHS.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations eased to 3,323 statewide, from 3,593 in Friday’s NCDHHS report.

Testing

Positive tests are running at 10.3 percent statewide.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 1,243 new cases from Friday’s report to today. There were 6 new COVID deaths reported countywide, including the new death reported today in Huntersville.

North Mecklenburg (change from Friday)

Cornelius: 33 new cases, 3,740 cumulative total, 28 deaths cumulative total.

Davidson: 17 new cases, 2,180 cumulative total, 15 deaths cumulative total.

Huntersville: 77 new cases, 8,119 cumulative total, 64 deaths cumulative total.
