Aug. 23. Today’s NC Dept. of Health & Human Services COVID report shows 5,184 new cases statewide. Hospitalizations due to COVID climbed again, to 3,197 statewide.

NC deaths

The NCDHHS today reported 61 new coronavirus deaths since Friday’s report, for a total of 14,120 statewide since the outbreak began more than a year ago.

Testing

Positive tests are coming back at the rate of 11.9 percent statewide.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 1,604 new cases from Friday to today, as well as two new COVID-related deaths. The county-wide positive test rate climbed to 13.2 percent.

North Mecklenburg (change from Friday)

Cornelius: 45 new cases, 3,333 cumulative total, 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 25 new cases, 1,952 cumulative total, 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 127 new cases, 7,179 cumulative total, 55 deaths total.
