Big Day at the Lake: A big picnic and more than $100,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters

July 22. More than four dozen volunteers helped make the 2025 Big Day at the Lake a big success for more than 150 Bigs and Littles this past weekend at the lakefront Energy Explorium.

With an abundance of caution and a commitment to the safety and well-being of the children and boat hosts, organizers of Big Day at the Lake made the decision to cancel the boating portion of this year’s event due to the algae bloom situation.

The picnic also included Boat Hosts who have supported the concept behind Big Day at the Lake: A full day of fun on the lake for at-risk children in Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“While we were sad to miss the time on the water, Bigs, Littles and Boat Hosts came together for a picnic filled with food, games, and community,” said Big Day at the Lake founder Dave Yochum.

Big Day at the Lake continues to support and celebrate the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas, raising $2 million for the agency over the past 21 years.

This year’s total: $105,000.
