Activities warm up in March; make plans now

Plant Market

Registration opens for Mayors Fitness Challenge

The 2024 Mayors Fitness Challenge will take place for six weeks from April 7 – May 19. The goal is for residues of Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville to have the most active minutes collectively each week. At the end of the six weeks, the town with the highest average total of active minutes will be awarded the Fittest Community trophy. Registration for this year’s fitness challenge opens March 4.

Chronicles of Yarnia Discussion Group

1 – 3 pm | March 6. Join fellow yarn and textile enthusiasts to share inspiration, ideas, and stories from our experiences as knitters, crocheters, and crafters. This program is not led by an instructor; it’s a social circle for sharing, building understanding and community. Feiyang Liu, guitar, Concert

Poisoned Dwarf Celtic Ensemble

Lake Norman Men That Cook

11 am to 12:30 pm or 12:30 pm to 2 pm | March 17. The Huntersville Happy Hour Rotary Club’s family friendly event provides samplings of tasty cuisine prepared by cooking teams who compete for prize money for their favorite charity. Ticket sales support charities that serve the communities of North Mecklenburg and South Iredell counties.Patrons use their admission ticket to vote for their favorite dish or charity in six different food categories. First, second and third place winners are selected by a panel of chefs from well-known area restaurants. Tickets are $20. Tickets for children under 10 are $10. Children under 5 are free. An Afternoon of Irish Tunes

3 pm | March 17. Charlotte’s own old-time, bluegrass, and folk music stars Jon Singleton and Jon Hill will perform a concert of Irish American music. The Sheng Player: A British/Chinese Mixed Family’s Live Performance and More

7:30 – 9:45pm | March 18. A fun-loving British/Chinese mixed family from London. Yi Guo is a player of the sheng, an ancient Chinese musical instrument dating back to 1100 BCE. His work has been featured on over 200 movies, including The Last Emperor. Accompanying him to Davidson will be his English wife, Amanda, and their son, Toto Guo, who is an international model and actor splitting his time between China and the UK. Music and stories. Davidson College Choirs: KITKA

7:30 – 9 pm | March 20. The Davidson College Chorale performs with the exotic and exhilarating professional vocal ensemble, KITKA. The nine women in KITKA are fearless sonic explorers who for over four decades, have developed a vast, breathtaking repertoire of traditional songs from the Balkans, Caucasus, and Slavic lands, as well as new material composed for the group drawing on those ancient vocal practices. Bright Star

Bright Star is a haunting tale of love and redemption set among a rich ensemble of characters in the North Carolina mountains in the 1940’s. Literary editor Alice Murphy sets out to discover the familial secret that binds her to a young writer just back from World War II. Hop Into Spring

Donuts With the Duck and Bunny

NC Arbor Day Tree Planting: Pump House Greenway

In celebration of the NC Arbor Day (held earlier than the national Arbor Day to coincide with the area tree planting season), TreesDavidson will host a tree planting at the Pump House Greenway, 865 South St., to plant 40-50 trees with volunteers.
