The best and brightest young classical music performers in Cornelius are headed to the biggest stage in town over the next two Sundays.

The North Carolina Youth Orchestra will make its Cain Center for the Arts debut for two concerts on Oct. 18 and 25 as part of the program’s Fall 2026 Concert Series.

The Oct. 18 concert will feature the NCYO’s brass, woodwind and percussion ensembles, along with junior ensembles, before the orchestra takes the stage.

The orchestra, directed by Eric Boruff, is the organization’s premier ensemble and features musicians representing all four instrument families performing classical works.

The concert also will showcase the organization’s specialized ensembles, several of which are led by professional musicians associated with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.

The Junior Brass Ensemble and Junior Woodwind Ensemble provide opportunities for developing musicians to build technical skills and gain experience.

The Oct. 25 concert will feature the orchestra’s new Youth Choir, followed by performances from the Sinfonia Strings Ensemble and Philharmonic.

The Youth Choir emphasizes vocal technique, musicianship and ensemble skills while encouraging young singers to develop confidence and collaborate through music.

The Sinfonia Strings Ensemble serves beginning and intermediate string players. The Philharmonic gives intermediate and advanced string musicians an opportunity to develop their orchestral skills through a range of musical styles, including popular music, film favorites and classical standards.

The concerts offer audiences an opportunity to hear young musicians perform while supporting music education and the development of the next generation of performers.

Both performances begin at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available for individuals, seniors ages 55 and older, and families. Family tickets require a minimum purchase of three tickets and are intended for immediate family households. Each family member needs a ticket, except children who can sit on a guardian’s lap.
