County Expands List of Accepted Recyclables
Mecklenburg County has expanded the list of items that can be recycled in curbside containers.
Plastic fruit and takeout containers, plastic drink and yogurt cups, and paper cups can now be placed in curbside containers. Previously, those items could only be dropped off at staffed county recycling centers.
Newly accepted items include:
- Plastic cups, such as McDonald’s and Starbucks cups (no straws)
- Plastic fruit containers and clamshells
- Plastic takeout containers, preferably clear
- Plastic yogurt cups
- Paper cups
Items must be clean, with no food or sticky residue, and placed directly in the bin, not in bags. Containers must also be dry, with no water or other liquids left inside.
