Closures Coming to Knox Road This Month
By Dave Vieser — Portions of Knox Road in Cornelius will be closed beginning Sept. 8 to accommodate construction related to new roundabouts and traffic signals in the area.
Knox Road connects Torrence Chapel Road with West Catawba Avenue and intersects with One Norman Boulevard.
According to the N.C. Department of Transportation and the town, the first phase of closures will occur at night beginning Sept. 8 and continuing into the following week. The closures will allow crews to install new traffic signals near One Norman Boulevard and West Catawba Avenue.
A second phase is scheduled for daytime and nighttime hours Sept. 14-18 to allow construction of new sewer bypass lines in the same area.
Residents of Blue Stone Harbor will need to use the northeast neighborhood entrance and exit during the construction.
The town recommends using Knox Road and Torrence Chapel Road as an alternate route. West Catawba Avenue also can be used as an alternate to Knox Road, although traffic at the West Catawba Avenue and Torrence Chapel Road intersection is often congested, so delays are likely.
The closures are part of a project that includes three new roundabouts and additional traffic signals in Cornelius. Knox Road also will be completely resurfaced and widened from two lanes as part of the project.
