CMS Releases Annual Grades for Local Schools

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools released its annual report cards for county schools, with all but one public and charter school in the Cornelius area receiving a grade of B or better.

Across CMS during the 2024-25 school year, all math composite proficiency scores increased, 115 schools exceeded growth expectations, and six schools ranked among the top 30 in North Carolina for overall academic growth. Seventy percent of schools earned a School Performance Grade of A, B or C, while 55 schools improved their School Performance Grade from the previous year.

Cornelius and area charter schools received the following grades:

• Cornelius Elementary School received a B with a score of 81, an increase of 10 points from the previous year. Its overall growth in academics and math was rated “met,” while reading was rated “exceeded.” Average EOG scores were 84 in reading and 75 in math.
• J.V. Washam Elementary School received a B with a score of 80, a decrease of one point from the previous year. Its overall growth in academics, math and reading was rated “exceeded.” Average EOG scores were 86 in reading and 75 in math.
• Bailey Middle School received a B with a score of 82, unchanged from the previous year. Its overall growth in academics, math and reading was rated “exceeded.” Average EOG scores were 85 in reading and 77 in math.
• Hough High School received a B with a score of 84, an increase of three points from the previous year. Its overall growth was rated “exceeded.” Average EOG scores for math and reading were not listed.
• Community School of Davidson received a B with a score of 77, a decrease of four points from the previous year. Its overall growth in academics, math and reading was rated “met.” Average EOG scores were 75 in reading and 72 in math.
• Lake Norman Charter received an A with a score of 88, unchanged from the previous year. Its overall growth in academics and math was rated “exceeded,” while reading was rated “met.” Average EOG scores were 89 in reading and 81 in math.
• Lakeside Charter received a C with a score of 56, an increase of 23 points from the previous year. Its overall growth in academics and math was rated “exceeded,” while reading was rated “met.” Average EOG scores were 51 in reading and 60 in math.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools includes 185 schools, making it the 16th-largest school district in the nation and the second-largest in North Carolina. More than 19,000 employees serve more than 141,000 students representing 181 countries and speaking 209 languages and dialects.
