NOAA released its hurricane forecast this week and is calling for a below-normal 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through Nov. 30. The agency says there is a 55% chance of a below-normal season, a 35% chance of a near-normal season and a 10% chance of an above-normal season.

NOAA expects 8-14 named storms, including 3-6 hurricanes and 1-3 major hurricanes. An average season produces 14 named storms and seven hurricanes. Forecasters say developing El Niño conditions could suppress storm activity, though warmer Atlantic waters may still fuel storms.

Today: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Patchy fog before 3pm. High near 74. East northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Tonight showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog before 9pm. Low around 62. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. High near 75. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Saturday night showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then showers likely. Low around 63. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Sunday: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 81. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday night showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers. Low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Memorial Day: A chance of showers before 8am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Monday night showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
