Hough Sports Roundup: Week Three

Boys lacrosse: Hough has a 7-1 record after wins in the last week against Community School of Davidson, Charlotte Catholic and Weddington by scores of 13-9, 13-6 and 13-9, respectively. Senior defenders Drew Weber and Bryson Armstrong continued shutting down opponents leading scorers this season. Senior faceoff specialist Alex Gregoloff put in a solid performance at the X against Catholic, going 12 of 25 with two goals against the top-ranked junior in the country. Sophomore attackman Noah Sheridan and senior midfielder Drew Webber added five and four goals each against Weddington.
Girls soccer: The Huskies suffered their first loss of the season, falling 3-1 to Cardinal Gibbons. Sophomore midfielder Sophia Pustorino scored the lone goal, assisted by junior Abby Hudson. The Huskies rebounded with a 2-1 win over Jacksonville and a 4-0 shutout of Lake Norman. Goalkeepers Elizabeth Rupert and Riley Pickels combined for the shutout, each recording five saves. The Huskies also beat West Forsyth 3-0 to move to 8-1 on the season and face West Mecklenburg on Friday.
Baseball: Hough went 2-0 in the last week, defeating West Mecklenburg 11-1 and Lake Norman 6-3, holding the Wildcats to only three hits in the game. The Huskies improved to 6-2 overall and extended their winning streak to four games. They are 2-0 in conference play, with both wins against West Mecklenburg. The Huskies return to action Friday against Garinger at home.
Softball: The Huskies extended their winning streak to six games with three victories this week. Hough defeated Garinger 15-0, South Mecklenburg 7-6 and East Mecklenburg 6-2. Five players scored multiple runs against Garinger, led by senior outfielder Reese Lavey with three. Hough remains atop the Greater Charlotte 7A/8A Conference and is unbeaten in conference play. The Huskies travel to Myers Park on Friday for a conference matchup.
Other Sports:
- Girls lacrosse: The Huskies moved to 4-1 on the season with a dominating win 20-4 win over South Iredell, their lone game of the week. The team is off until their April 1 game at Davidson Day.
- Boys tennis: Defeated South Mecklenburg 6-3.
- Girls flag football: Beat West Mecklenburg 16-6.
- Boys volleyball: Hough played South Iredell this week but no score was reported.
