Weekend Weather: Buh-bye snow, hello sleet?

Jan. 23 – It will never cease to amaze me how many winters we go from a full-blown snow forecast to maybe some snow, to probably sleet and freezing rain. Maybe it’s because we’re the most populated metro in the entire country without its own radar system?

Today: Cloudy, with a high near 48. Calm wind. Tonight mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Light northeast wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.

Saturday: A chance of sleet, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Northeast wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Saturday night sleet before 9pm, then sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain. The sleet could be heavy at times. Low around 20. North northeast wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.

Sunday: Freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet. High near 30. North northeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Sunday night freezing rain, mainly before midnight. Low around 22. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 34. Monday night clear, with a low around 6.

Next week: Daytime temps hover in the 30s with lows in the single digits and teens.
