Dec. 5. The 43rd Annual North Mecklenburg Holiday Parade will return to the streets of Davidson and Cornelius on Saturday, Dec. 6. The long-running community tradition gets rolling at 1 p.m. and is expected to draw thousands of spectators along the two-mile route.
The parade begins on Main Street in downtown Davidson and continues south into downtown Cornelius, ending at the intersection of Main Street and Catawba Avenue. Road closures in both towns will begin in the late morning, and officials encourage attendees to arrive early, as parking near the route typically fills quickly.
The event features nearly 100 community groups, marching bands, Scout troops, dance studios, decorated vehicles and holiday-themed floats. Parade rules prohibit participants from throwing candy or giveaways; items may only be handed directly to spectators by walkers accompanying each entry. The town of Davidson also reserves the final float for Santa, ensuring no other entries include Santa or Mrs. Claus.
Following the parade, the Merry Main Street Tricycle Race will take place in downtown Davidson. The lighthearted competition features four-person teams sponsored by local businesses racing adult-sized tricycles through a short obstacle course in front of the Town Green.
The parade will be held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, updates will be posted on municipal websites and social media channels. Organizers advise visitors to dress for the conditions, bring chairs or blankets, and plan for heavy pedestrian traffic throughout the downtown areas of both towns.
