May 18. Groundbreaking for celebrity chef David Burke’s new pizza restaurant concept in Cornelius will be in July. Burke has signed a deal to bring The GOAT Pizza to a 4,000 square foot space at the Village of Oakhurst on Hwy. 21 and Bailey Road where The Waterman recently opened.

Just across Bailey Road is local mainstay 131 Main, which means this part of Cornelius will be even more of a destination for foodies.

Success story

Burke is a restaurateur with a world-wide following. He already has two restaurants in Charlotte—Red Salt and Cloud Bar inside Le Méridien in uptown—as well as more than a dozen restaurants in New Jersey, New York and Saudi Arabia.

David Burke Tavern is his flagship restaurant in New York City. He is the culinary director for the Adelphi Hotel in Saratoga, VENTANAS in Fort Lee, Son Cubano in West New York, The Garden City Hotel which includes Red Salt Room by David Burke and the King Bar by DB.

GOAT No. 1

There’s already a GOAT in Union Beach, NJ.

The Union Beach GOAT was designed by Burke and has a goat-themed décor and original artwork. There is a partially open kitchen featuring a wood-burning oven that will be used for several dishes, including gourmet pizzas, roast chicken, vegetables and whatever sparks Burke’s imagination.

Menu

Menu items include bruschetta of the day, raw bar, seasonal fish and, of course, wood fired-pizza.

Timing

But you’ll have to wait. Burke will announce the opening of GOAT here sometime next month. Look for opening day in 2023.

Groundbreaking for the two-story, 28,000-square-foot expansion of The Village at Oakhurst is set for July.
