With CookHouse closed, where can you go for a sit-down breakfast?

Classic waffle topped with mixed berry compote from Famous Toastery

Sept. 13: With Cookhouse following in the footsteps of  Waffle House, Cornelius has lost two breakfast choices on a very limited menu.

Those closures come in the wake of the loss of Acropolis, which closed in 2017.

Bakery 28 and North State BBQ are new contenders in trying to fill the gap, joining Fresh Egg Restaurant.

Is it a good bet? Probably, because breakfast is America’s favorite meal with 34 percent of people responding to a OnePoll on behalf of Dave’s Killer Bread crowning breakfast as the top dog.

In the study, lunch took second place with 24 percent and dinner got last place with 19 percent.

The 2019 survey also ranked the top 10 breakfast foods:

10. Doughnuts

28.26%

9. Homefries

28.76%

8. Oatmeal

34.07%

7. Fresh fruit

34.92%

6. Cereal

5. Bacon

4. Pancakes

3. Toast

2. Sausage

1. Eggs

Whether you consider breakfast the most important meal of the day, or your favorite, here are some eateries where you can sit down and enjoy it. Not included are the grab-and-go, bagel or doughnut shops, and the grocery store / convenience store / pure gas station options.
