Jan. 14-15: Mahler Symphony No. 9

Trying to figure out what to do? This calendar, published weekly on Mondays, can point you to some of the best options in Lake Norman.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Jan. 10

Organ at Davidson 

7:30 pm. Organ at Davidson’s hosting of organ students continues with Christopher Pharo. Free with donations. Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

Open Track Nights on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays

6-8 pm. James Hoyt Wilhelm Park’s 1/4-mile walking track will be lighted on Mondays and Bailey Road Park’s regulation track will be lighted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both open to the public.

Music 

8 pm. DECARLO. Buy tickets in advance for $15.  

Jan. 14-15

Mahler Symphony No. 9 

7:30 pm. Charlotte Symphony.  $19+. Call 704-972-2000 to order. Belk Theater, Charlotte.

Jan. 15

Martin Luther King Commemoration Service

10 am-11:30 am. The Western North Carolina Conference will host its annual  service on  FB Live  and You Tube Live.  This year’s theme is “Infinite Hope: Honoring the Legacy-Advancing the Vision -Fulfilling the Vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.” The keynote speaker will be Rev. Nelson Johnson, executive eirector of the Beloved Community Center, Greensboro.

Jan. 15: Enrage Against The Machine perform at BoatYard Lake Norman

Music 

9 pm. Enrage Against The Machine. Buy tickets in advance for $10;  or on the day of show for $15. BoatYard Lake Norman, 18418 Statesville Rd.

Cardio Funk 

9-10 am. Saturdays. This high-energy class takes place at Bailey Road Recreation Center. $5/class or $40 for a 10-class pass. pay at the door.

Jan. 16

Open Gym Senior Pickleball 

1-3 pm  at JV Washam Recreation Center.

Through Jan. 21

Fibers & Frames art show 

This multi-disciplinary exhibition features work from husband and wife team Terry and Sue Ruhs of Waxhaw. Cornelius Arts Center. Gallery hours of operation: 10 am – 4 pm Monday – Friday.

Tickets  to the Class of 2021 Induction Ceremony and weekend activities.

Jan. 22

Harry Potter Children’s Suite for Orchestra 

11 am – noon. Presented by Charlotte Symphony. Kids ages 4-9  learn about the different sections of the orchestra from The Boy Who Lived. Featuring music from John Williams’s score. $14. Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts, Charlotte. Call 704-972-2000 to order.
