Wednesday, March 15

Stephen Salyer

Ideas Matter: Maximizing Personal and Organizational Impact for the Public Good

7-8 pm | March 15. Stephen Salyer, Davidson ‘72, has founded and led organizations and enterprises at the cutting edge of non-profit entrepreneurship. He will discuss “maximizing personal and organizational impact for the public good.” Free and open to public. Visual Arts Center VAC-117 Semans Lecture Hall, Davidson College.

Thursday, March 16

Senior Dance

3:30 – 4:30 pm | Thursdays, through Thursday, June 29. This free class is designed for senior adults to improve flexibility, breath, balance, mobility, and fluidity by exploring various elements of ballet, jazz, modern, and improvisation. Participants can choose to take the class seated, standing, or a combination of both. Presented by Charlotte Ballet. Northern Regional Recreation Center, 18121 Old Statesville Rd., Cornelius.

Friday, March 17

Luck of the Village

6-9 pm | March 17. An evening full of live music, dancing, festive gear and more at The Plaza in Birkdale Village. Performances from the Loch Norman Pipe Band, live music from The Hitmen, Irish dancers. Beer from Lost Worlds Brewing. Parking is available in all parking decks and surface lots. Valet is available in front of Concierge. Birkdale Village recommends using ride shares or carpooling.

Saturday, March 17 – Sunday, March 18

2nd Annual St. Paddy’s Day Weekend Celebration

3 pm-midnight | March 17. Noon -midnight | March 18. Enjoy music, food and drinks while walking between Thigs LKN cocktail bar and Old Town Public House in the social district. There will outdoor games and a vendor village on the OTPH patio, and festivities outside of Thigs. Downtown Cornelius.

Springtime Storytime

10-11 am | March 18. Davidson Police Community Engagement Officer Mike Prather, in partnership with Jamie Hofmeister-Cline from Music Together of Charlotte will present “The Big Umbrella,” suitable for preschool (3-5) and toddler (2-3) aged children and their families. Free with registration. Davidson Public Library, outdoors on the patio.

Our Town Stage Indoor Concert Series

Women’s Leadership Conference

10 am – 2 pm | March 18. The conference provides women with an interactive, intergenerational exploration of 21st-century leadership. $25. Chambers Lilly Family Gallery, Davidson College.

Irish Connection

2-5:30 pm | March 18. Featuring Irish dance, music, and the real history behind the 18th Scots-Irish immigration that brought Hugh Torance and his brothers, and thousands of others to America. Free but advance tickets required. Cedar Grove and the Hugh Torance House and Store, 8231 Gilead Rd., Huntersville.

Sham- Rock and Roll Cornhole

Noon – 4 pm | March 18. Live music, games, beer, food trucks and raffles benefiting the Cool Kids Clubhouse. The event is free to attend. The cornhole tournament is $20 per person. D9 Brewing Lake Norman, 11138 Treynorth Dr., Cornelius.

Music at St. Alban’s: Helios Piano Trio 

3-4 pm | March 19. Musicians on the artist faculty at the University of Wyoming who aim “to produce passionate interpretations of the great piano trio repertoire.” Tickets $15-$20. St Alban’s Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Ln., Davidson.

An Afternoon of Irish Tunes

3 – 4:30 pm | March 19. Bluegrass and folk music stars Jon Singleton and Jon Hill will perform a concert of Irish American music to celebrate the heritage of old St. Patrick. Fiddle and clawhammer banjo meet accordion, piano, mandolin and guitar. Free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. Sloan Music Center Tyler-Tallman Recital Hall, Davidson College.

House and Store Guided Tour

1:15 and 3 pm | Sundays. Step back in time to 1779 and explore the Hugh Torance House and Store. There is no fee, but donations are welcome. Cedar Grove and the Hugh Torance House and Store, 8231 Gilead Rd., Huntersville.

Home Grown exhibit

9 am – 5 pm Monday-Friday; 9 am -noon, Saturday. | Jan 30-March 31. A non-juried exhibit that showcases the talent of local artists. Cornelius Arts Center gallery, 19725 Oak St.

Senior Bird Walk

9 am | Mondays, Jan. 9 – May 8. Avid birders provide a guided walk to identify birds throughout Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary and SEED Wildlife & Children’s Garden. The 3.5 acre open space is conducive to many local and migratory songbirds. The walk is slow paced with opportunities to rest on benches and be still for the birds.
