How to Protest Well and Safely
10 am | June 28. Unity in Community (UiC) invites everyone for a powerful and timely event, “How to Protest Well and Safely,” followed by the quarterly general meeting. “How to Protest Well and Safely” is a program designed to equip community members with the knowledge and tools to engage in
peaceful, effective protest. Keynote speakers the Rev. Joel Simpson and the Rev. Dr. Hanna Broome will share their personal experiences in activism, particularly their involvement in the May 5, 2025, Moral Monday protest at the U.S. Capitol, where they were among five individuals arrested while peacefully praying in opposition to a proposed Congressional budget they believe disproportionately harms the poor while favoring the wealthy. Following their remarks, representatives from local police departments will offer insight into how law enforcement supports and protects individuals engaged in nonviolent protest.
