Weekly calendar Jan. 3-8: Cain Center opening and show, polar plunge, Huntersville anniversary celebration and more

The Cain Center for the Arts is open to the public 4-8 pm Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Here are some events  happening through Sunday.

Tuesday, Jan. 3

Cain Center for the Arts Community Open House 

4-8 pm | Jan. 3. Free community event featuring tours, local talent showcases, art workshops including Mosaic Ceramic Tile and Jewelry Handmaking. Local LKN performer showcases in the theater start at 6 pm including LKN Orchestra, Learn Music, Steve Langley’s Soap Bubble Circus and Rusty Knox.

Imbibe & Inspire Tour

Renée Elise Goldsberry performs opening night Jan. 7 at the Cain Center for the Arts.

Cain Center grand opening 

Doors open 6 pm; show 8 pm | Jan. 7. Renée Elise Goldsberry is an actress and singer who has delivered award winning performances both on Broadway and the screen. Best known for her role as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton. $250 per person. Each ticket purchase includes station style dinner, open bar, keepsake item and admission to performance. Polar Plunge 2023

Noon-3:30 pm | Jan. 7. Event by Special Olympics Lake Norman at the Lake Norman Yacht Club. Tickets $30 per person. Lake Norman Yacht Club, 297 Yacht Rd., Mooresville.

Huntersville’s Anniversary Kickoff Event

10 am – noon. | Jan. 7. family-friendly activities. Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

Conservation Celebration: DLC’s Annual Meeting & Party

International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society

Noon-4pm | Tuesday-Friday; 10am-2pm | Saturday. Forty watercolor paintings from today’s nationally known and internationally known masters will be on display in Mooresville Arts’ Center Gallery, 103 W. Center Ave., Mooresville. Many of the paintings will be for sale.

Through Our Lens: Digital Art and Photography

A small group of digital artists and photographers from North Carolina  display their love for their art. Cornelius Art Gallery, 19725 Oak St.

Birkdale on Ice 

General admission tickets for the 75-minute skate sessions, are $18 for adults and $14 per child 12 and younger. Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

Lights

6-10 pm | Daily. Explore a half-mile, self-guided walking trail showcasing illuminated installations representing the Whitewater story and mission. The elements populate the entire Ridge and Canyon of the Whitewater Center and culminate with a compelling view above the forest floor on an all new suspension bridge complex. Free; pay to park. Men of Change art exhibit

Check websites for gallery schedules. | B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture  and Levine Museum of the New South to bring  Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth. The Gantt will display Storytellers, Fathering, and Imagining; Levine Museum will display Catalysts, Myth-Breakers, and Community; both museums in Charlotte will display Loving. Admission is free.
