Free Speech Speaker Series: Mark McNeilly
11 am – noon | Feb. 29. Davidson Free Speech Alliance welcomes Mark McNeilly as part of its Free Speech Speaker Series, sponsored by Davidsonians for Freedom of Thought and Discourse. McNeilly has been actively engaged for several years in changing campus culture, promoting institutional neutrality, researching self-censorship on campus, and studying tenure and free expression. An Evening With Fiction Writer Rone Shavers

Rone Shavers is author of the experimental Afrofuturist novel Silverfish (Clash Books), a finalist for the 2021 Council of Literary Magazines and Presses Firecracker (CLMP) Award in Fiction, a Big Other Book Award, and one of The Brooklyn Rail’s “Best Books of 2020.” He writes in multiple literary genres. Cain Center for the Arts partners with Melissa Ohlman-Roberge and Metrolina Theatre Association on a new initiative that puts the area’s most skilled theater students together with a challenging piece of musical theater for an exciting process resulting in a unique staged concert. The musical follows Jeremy Heere, an average teenager until he finds out about “The Squip,” a tiny supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine, an invite to the raddest party of the year and a chance to survive life in his suburban New Jersey high school. Bae Hart exhibit
Artwork by Bae Hart will be on display at Cain Center for the Arts. Hart’s impressive career has seen her work featured by some of the most influential brands, publications, media outlets and museums in the world, using her photography to capture the essence of Black culture and elevate its visibility on a global stage. Through her work, she aims to showcase the rich and diverse experiences of Black people everywhere, celebrating their unique contributions to society and encouraging greater understanding and acceptance. Public viewing hours are 10 am – 4 pm Tuesday – Friday.
