Field of Honor 9/11 Memorial

On the 21st anniversary of the 2001 attacks, the magnitude of loss is revealed by this solemn formation of flags.  Flags will be posted at Veterans Park and Town Center Lawn, Downtown Huntersville for all to pause and remember.

Cabarrus County Fair

Opens 4 pm weekdays and 1 pm Saturday. General gate admission is $8 for ages 12 to 54; $6 for ages 55+ and those with military ID; and $6 for ages 6 to 11. Ages 5 and younger admitted free. Parking is free. Cabarrus Arena and Events Center, Concord, off Hwy 49.

Organ at Davidson 

7:30- 9 pm | Sept 12. Organ at Davidson’s 17th season begins with organist Rob Dicks from Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. This recital is free in-person and online. A meet-the-artist reception will follow the program. Davidson College Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, 100 North Main St., Davidson.

Annual Night for Paws Gala  

6- 10:30 pm | Sept 13.  An evening of delicious dinner options and hor d’oeuvres, complimentary bar including wine, beer and cocktails at Lake Norman Human’s outdoor covered pavilion.  Live entertainment for dancing. And wear your dancing shoes because the night will feature live entertainment. Live and silent auction items. Individual tickets: $150.  Community meeting

6:30 pm | Sept 14. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission to discuss the historic roadside marker to be placed at the site of the Huntersville No. 2  Rosenwald School. Meeting is at The Dellwood Center, 508 Dellwood Drive, Huntersville, which was originally a one-room schoolhouse built in the 1920s that sits on three acres.  Info: 704-314-7660.

Davidson for Ukraine 

6:30 pm to 8:30 pm | Sept 15. The program begins at 7 pm and is open to the public. Attendees will be able to sample Ukrainian treats for purchase and engage with members of Davidson for Ukraine to learn more about Ukraine and its culture at a series of booths. Traditional Series: Ballads, Stories, and Songs from Madison County

7:30 pm | Sept 15. Sheila Kay Adams, NEA Folk Heritage Fellow, master ballad singer, banjoist, and story teller, will be joined by fellow master musicians Donna Ray Norton (ballads) and Josh Goforth (ballads, virtuoso fiddle and guitar). The three artists will share Scottish ballads rediscovered in Madison County over a century ago, along with wonderful stories of the world of Sodom, their mountain hamlet. Katie St. Clair: Opening Reception 

6- 7:30 pm | Sept 15. Each year, the Van Every/Smith Galleries present an exhibition that highlights the work of one or more studio art faculty. This year, the Galleries will collaborate with Katie St. Clair, Assistant Professor of Painting, on the presentation of her solo exhibition, Lay of the Land. Learn about the artwork during the artist reception and gallery talk. Davidson College, Visual Arts Center VAC-100 Atrium.

Natalie Moore: “Abortion and Race in the City”

8th Annual Huntersville Fall Festival

10 am – 4 pm | Sept 17. Come join in the fun at the 8th Annual Community Huntersville Fall Festival! Enjoy local art and craft booths, children games and crafts, inflatables, scarecrow making, food trucks, pumpkin patch and live entertainment. This event is free to attend. Paddockpalooza

10:30 am- 4:30 pm | Sept 17. Paddockpalooza, www.hindsfeetfarm.org/paddockpalooza an  open-air artisan market to showcase Hinds’ Feet Farm, a 32-acre farm and raise awareness of brain injuries. 14625 Black Farms Rd, Huntersville.

Safety Saturday

10 am – noon | Sept 17.  The Plaza at Birkdale Village. Families are invited to get a close up look at special safety vehicles and learn about ways to keep the  community safer.

ONGOING 

Mondays: Bike ride, cardio funk

Monday Night Social bike ride

6:15 pm. Roll Out. The F3 aka D9 Swell Riders lead a group that encourages all cyclists to come ride. Bailey Road Park; meet at the parking lot by the basketball courts. Distance/pace: 15 miles; social ride with faster group options; no drop.

Depending on how big of a group there is, they may break off into an A, B, and C group. All abilities are welcome — they ride and regroup so that no one is left behind. Post-ride, cool off with a beer at D9 Brewing. D9 donates $1 for every beer to Bike MS, a fundraising initiative of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Cardio Funk 

6:30-7:30 pm. Drop in for this high-energy class at Bailey Road Recreation Center.  $10 per class, pay at the door.

Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays

Pickleball Open Play 

8:30-11:30 am. Cornelius Parks & Recreation and Lake Norman Pickleball Association are now offering Pickleball Open Play at Robbins Park, 17738 West Catawba Ave. Players of all skill levels are welcome, Participants will need to bring their own paddle. This is a free, drop-in program; no registration is required.

Tuesdays: Running, trivia, pickleball, workout classes, corn hole, growers market

Be Well Birkdale 

6-7 pm free workout class. Check in starts at 5:45 pm. Workout class by various studios and instructors. Don’t forget your mat. You’ll receive a punch card during your first class and if you come to four Be Well Birkdale classes, you get a special prize. The Grove across from Kilwins, Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

Run Club

6:30 pm. Tuesdays are for Beer Trekkers and a cold brew after your run. Lost Worlds Brewing, 19700-D One Norman Blvd., Cornelius.

“Secret” Society of Crafters 

10 am to noon, weather permitting. Connect with crafters in the area, find the motivation to pick up that project again, and benefit from the wisdom of a passionate crafting group. Hearts On Fiber, 208 South Village Ln. Suite A, Davidson.

Wednesdays: Birkdale Buds, cycling, open mic

Birkdale Buds 

10:30 am- noon.  Bring your pre-school aged child for playtime in the Grove. Weekly activities may include face painters, storytellers, magicians, arts and crafts. Crafts and activities will be available while supplies last. Bring a blanket to sit on. Free. The Grove across from Kilwins in Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

Wednesday Night bike ride

6 pm.  Meet in front of Spirited Cyclist Bike Shop, 610 Jetton St, Davidson, in the Harris Teeter parking lot. Distance/pace: 16 miles; moderate 16-18 mph. While this is a no-drop ride and open to anyone on a road bike, it is not a beginner ride and the average group pace is 17mph. The terrain is rolling and we will regroup a few times throughout the ride.

Cycling Club

6 pm. The Cornelius Cycling Club meets and rolls out from Lost World’s Brewery for a 22+ mile ride. Groups of riders are organized by pace. Lost Worlds Brewing, 19700-D One Norman Blvd., Cornelius.
